Jha’s laboratory on the vulnerability of attention under stress and th e potential of short-form mindfulness-based interventions to bolster cogni tive and emotional resilience. \nAcross diverse applied groups — includi ng military personnel\, first responders\, educators\, athletes\, and othe rs — brief mindfulness training has been associated with improvements in laboratory-based measures of attention and working memory\, subjective ra tings of well-being\, and operationally relevant performance outcomes.\n\n She will discuss strategies for beginning individual mindfulness practice and present models for scalable\, system-wide delivery\, such as peer-led instruction and digital platforms\, to support integration into profession al and operational settings. She will also highlight the broader implicati ons for optimizing cognitive readiness and resilience in high-performance teams.\n\nAbout the Speaker\n\nPrior to her current role\, Jha was an assi stant professor at the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Cognitive Neuroscience. She earned a doctorate in psychology (cognitive neuroscienc e) from the University of California–Davis and completed postdoctoral tr aining in brain imaging at Duke University. With support from the Departme nt of Defense and private foundations\, Jha investigates the neural mechan isms of attention and how attention can be protected and strengthened with mindfulness training. \n\nHer research focuses on high-stress\, high-dema nd professionals—including military service members\, first responders\, medical and business professionals and leaders\, and elite athletes—whe re cognitive resilience and peak performance are critical.
